At Buck Valley Ranch, we offer exciting Red Deer hunts, with both Stags(males) and Hinds(females) available. Stags are harvested from September through March when they have hard antlers, while Hinds can be hunted year-round. These impressive animals are among the largest deer species, making for a thrilling and rewarding hunt.

 

Red Deer have a rich brown coat that takes on a reddish hue in the summer, while males develop a darker, thicker coat with a distinctive mane in the fall. Mature Stags typically weigh around 500 pounds but can reach up to 750 pounds. Their antlers, known for their “crown” of points at the tips, commonly have five to six points per side and can grow beyond 36 inches.

 

Originally from Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa, Red Deer were introduced to Texas in the early 1930s. Their venison is prized for its rich flavor and is commonly served in restaurants.
